Budapest
art is anything you can get away with
[info]oddnumbereven
Last year me & a friend entered this competition, and doing a spring clean of the computer I uncovered up my entry. I'm not crazy about it, but I feel like it's never going to be worked at any more, so I thought I'd post it as a curiosity. The prompt was:

Write a short story of 900 words in the month of November. As a starting point, the title of the story should be the name of a European city

Reading March
redswimsuit, beachreads

I finished three books in March, and read a smattering of essays (mostly Ellen Willis and Geoff Dyer) and revisited my beloved Frank O'Connor's story collection, My Oedipus Complex. Plus lots of old Marvel comics. Over on t'Slut I reviewed Chibundu Onuzo's The Spider King's Daughter (part of the 'The _____'s Daughter' title phenomenon). The latest issue also features a cracking review of Dyer's Zona written by a friend of mine.

Favourite movies: a gratuitous listing
[info]oddnumbereven
The other day at work one of my esteemed colleagues and I were discussing yet another set of movie lists (these ones) and he broached the question - top ten favourite flicks? I went, whoa nelly, we need some context here - ten best? Ten favourites-you-say-on-a-dating-profile? Ten favourites-you-say-down-the-pub ("A silent French film from the twenties*." "Really?" "Nah, Cool Runnings.")? We agreed on the abstract guideline of "ten favourite films you appreciate as a grown-up". The list I came up with is of course pretty arbitrary. Still, I love all of these for all sorts of reasons, and have included clips from them in case you want a taste. All of these I've seen several times, which was what sealed their places here.

FIGJAM and boredom
[info]oddnumbereven
The Ankle has been deadly the last couple of days, which is frustrating as. I wanted to be at work, getting shit done, and off to dance class. Instead I'm R.I.C.E'ing and booking spensy trips to the physio.

However, I have been working through my frustration in the traditional way, through housework, needlework. and thinking impure thoughts tea drinking.

Dance when you can't stand it anymore
[info]oddnumbereven
This last month has been, in retrospect, hella busy, although I was stuck on my arse with either dud ankle or a nasty bug for a big part of it (el diablo ankle is now acting up again, which is bloody inconvenient as it has to help me get to West London for a party tonight).
